Whether you are visiting for the day or are camping overnight, the best way to see the reservoir is by boat. You will want to explore while you are here, there is a lot to see and our small boats, canoes and kayaks are perfect for this! Water level variations, rocks, shoals and large drift wood formations will make each trip unique. Do not be surprised if you encounter one or more of our resident loons, bald eagles, or otters during your trip. Fishermen will be greeted by our resident population of small mouth bass, perch, trout, and splake. NYS Fishing/Hunting Licenses, camping/fishing supplies and night crawlers are available from The Stillwater Shop. Don’t miss out on opportunities to hike into the wilderness areas, consult with the local ranger (315-376-8030) or arrange for a local Adirondack Guide. Boater’s Safety Courses:
Boater’s safety certificates are NOT currently required (2005) for the equipment we rent provided you are over 18 which is the minimum age we will rent to. If you are a personal watercraft operator then YOU must have a license.
HOWEVER – it certainly is not a bad idea to educate yourself – please visit the following websites for information on safety classes which are available through New York State Certified instructors as well as the US Coast Guard. Current speculation is that eventually this course will become mandatory so if the opportunity arises, don’t wait!
